[Disease Control Science Popularization] What should I do if I am bitten by a dog?

Now, more and more people are bouncing dogs, and some puppies are aggressive. If you touch these pet dogs without knowing the temperament, they may bite people. Once you are bitten by a dog, especially when you have wound bleeding, it is very likely to cause more serious consequences such as wound infection and rabies, so you must take timely measures to deal with it. So what should I do if I get bitten by a dog? After being bitten by a dog, emergency measures should be taken to reduce the entry of the virus into the body.

1. When the wound is small, shallow, and there is no major active bleeding, use soapy water (or other weakly alkaline detergents, professional rinsing fluid) and certain pressure of flowing water to completely rinse all bites and scratches for about 15 minutes, then wash the wound with normal saline, and finally use sterile degreasing cotton to suck off the residual liquid at the wound to avoid residual soapy water or detergent at the wound. When rinsing deeper wounds, you can use a syringe or special flushing equipment to inject and rinse the inside of the wound to achieve a comprehensive and thoroughness. Helps remove saliva left in the wound during the dog's bite. After rinsing the wound, apply the wound with diluted iodine or other skin and mucosa disinfectants (such as quaternary ammonium salt disinfectants, etc.). Kill rabies viruses entering the wound as much as possible. If the bite wound is large and there is active bleeding, it often indicates that the larger blood vessel was bitten by the dog. At this time, urgent compression is required to stop the bleeding to avoid excessive bleeding and cause hemorrhagic shock. Go to the emergency department of the hospital in time for treatment, and the doctor will perform professional hemostatic, debridement and wound bandaging.

2. Injection of rabies vaccine: Since dogs may carry rabies virus in their bodies, rabies virus may enter the body through the wound area of the skin, invade the peripheral nervous system after growing and reproduction in the body, and become infected with rabies virus. If the puppy bites the skin and bleeds, it needs to be injected with rabies vaccine in time, which can produce corresponding antibodies in the body and play a role in preventing rabies. The entire vaccination process should be taken as directed by the doctor, and the number of vaccinations should not be reduced at will. And you should receive a tetanus vaccine as prescribed by your doctor.

3. Injection of immunoglobulin: If there is a possibility of rabies virus infection, or the bite is deep and the wound is large, rabies patients' immunoglobulin is also needed to be injected, so as to effectively neutralize the virus, reduce or avoid the virus's retention in the body, and avoid the onset of rabies in the patient.

4. Be careful not to infect wounds, have a balanced daily diet, do not eat spicy and irritating foods, eat more fruits and vegetables, actively exercise, try to stay away from animals in the future, and pay attention to physical safety.

In daily life, puppies bring some companionship and joy, and also bring us risks. Rabies is a common infectious disease caused by animals in life, but in fact, people know very little about rabies. There is currently no effective clinical treatment for rabies. Once it occurs, the mortality rate is almost 100%, making it the infectious disease with the highest mortality rate. Therefore, once the skin is bitten or scratched by a dog, the wound should be treated in time to avoid serious consequences.
