According to sports reporter Schira, Sunderland tried to sign Guendouzi in January.

Schilla wrote on social media: "Sunderland has restarted negotiations to try to sign Guendouzi from Lazio in January."

In June, Schilla reported that Sunderland was interested in Guendouzi, but the player did not seem to want to leave Lazio at the time.
