Sherwood: If Spurs don t win trophies and qualify for the Champions League, it s a failure

Former Tottenham coach Tim Sherwood said that if Tottenham does not win a trophy this season and does not qualify for the Champions League, it will be a failure.
Tottenham won the Europa League last season, but ranked only 17th in the Premier League. Tottenham have improved a lot in the Premier League standings this season, but Sherwood said: "Today is an important game for Tottenham (against Manchester United). It is a really important game because if they lose this game, it will bring doom and pessimism, even though we are talking about a team that is sixth in the league standings."
Sherwood continued: "Tottenham are currently participating in the Champions League, but they cannot win this championship. Tottenham also lost the most important game of the season, which was the League Cup against Newcastle. There is no doubt that it was an important game and it was the easiest trophy to win. But Newcastle defeated Tottenham convincingly. After that, Tottenham again Lost to Chelsea in the London Derby, in front of 60,000 fans at home. The fans were not satisfied with the performance they saw, and coach Frank and the players were not happy. They encountered boos, and there was a little dispute between the players Van der Ven and the coach."
Sherwood emphasized: "There is a negative atmosphere now. There shouldn't be this atmosphere with Tottenham's ranking. But if Tottenham doesn't qualify for the Champions League and doesn't win any trophies this season, it's a failure. It's a failure. You can't just think: OK, we are better than 17th last season. Everyone knows why Tottenham were 17th. Lu gave up the Premier League for the Europa League, and they succeeded. Now Tottenham has tasted winning and has held a championship parade in an open-top bus. If they win nothing this season, or do not qualify for the Champions League, it will be a failure."
Sherwood then said: "Playing at home...when you compete in front of Tottenham fans. During the game, there will be a need to play in a certain way, but when you play away from home, it doesn't matter what tactics. Tottenham are well supported at home, and there are 60,000 home fans who want to be entertained, and not only that, they also want the team to win."
Sherwood pointed out: "During the Conte and Mourinho era, Although Tottenham's style of play is not exciting, they can still win games, especially in the early days of their coaching. It doesn't matter if you can win, but if you stop winning and don't get the most points, then the way you play is important, and then you will be scrutinized."
Finally, Sherwood said: "The fans have absolutely the right to hope. They spent a lot of money to watch the game, but the team is not playing bravely enough and the game is not exciting enough. Currently, Tottenham lacks Kulusevski and Maddison. They are the kind of players who can slow down the pace of the game and control the game. Now Tottenham's game is based more on set-piece attacks, side kicks, and corner kicks. Such games are not exciting."
