The difference is 350 million pounds away! TA: Manchester United is re-planning a new stadium and considering revoking the ceiling design

TA reported that Manchester United is re-planning its new stadium project and considering revoking the stadium's ceiling design.

The reason for this move is that Manchester United and landowner Freightliner have huge differences on the acquisition price.

It was revealed that Freightliner asked for a price of about £400 million for the key plot on the west side of the stadium it owned, while Manchester United's psychological price was only about £50 million. The huge price difference caused the negotiations to stalemate. The deadlock forced United to consider alternatives to reduce land demand, and removing the ceiling was one of them.

The ceiling, which was criticized as the "circus tent", was estimated to cost between £300 million and £400 million, and played a major role in Sir Ratcliff's original vision of "the most iconic stadium in the world". Sources said the new design, which does not include a ceiling, will "more in line with the appearance of a traditional stadium."

At present, the entire project faces multiple uncertainties. First, the initial estimated £2 billion construction cost has not been fully implemented and the club's financial situation remains tense.

Secondly, the plan to seek government funds for surrounding supporting facilities has also stagnated due to the failure to achieve land transactions. Greater Manchester Mayor Burnham has mentioned that authorities have a "forced purchase right" when necessary, but negotiations are still "far from over".
